Sun
You see the sun every day, but did you know it is the most important part of our solar system? The earth and all the other planets revolve around the sun. The sun heats the Earth so we don't freeze and gives us light so we can see.
The sun is actually a star! At night stars look like small twinkling dots in the sky, while the sun looks really big in comparison. The sun and other stars are all actually huge! The other stars only look small because they are more than a billion miles away. The sun is 93 million miles away from the Earth. The sun is the biggest part of our solar system. It is 108 times bigger than the Earth! Oddly enough, the sun is actually rather small compared to other stars in the universe. The sun is a medium-sized star and there are other stars that are more than 100 times bigger than our sun. There are more than a trillion stars in the universe!
The sun (like all stars) is a hot ball of fire! The sun is 27 million degrees F! The hottest it gets around here is about 103 degrees F on a really hot day, so luckily we live far enough from the sun that we don't die of heat.
